GRAMMY’S EASY BAKED ZITI is a crowd-pleasing recipe that combines Italian sausage, tomatoes, and pasta that is sure to be a favorite on your table, too!  This dish is not only scrumptious but it’s easy, too!  You can make it ahead of time and refrigerate until your ready to pop it in the oven….that’s my kind of recipe! haha

Another option, if you don’t need a full 9×13 pan, is to divide the pasta in half.  Cook in a 8×8 pan and freeze the other 8×8 pan portion for later use.

GRAMMY'S EASY BAKED ZITI

Servings 8 servings

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (casings removed if using links)
  • 1 box ziti or penne
  • 1 24 - 32 oz jar of favorite marinara sauce
  • 1 14.5oz can diced tomatoes with basil and oregano
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375* and lightly spray/grease a 9x13 baking dish. Set aside
  • Boil pasta according to package directions. Set aside.
  • In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, cook Italian sausage and diced onion until sausage is crumbly and almost cooked through. Add in minced garlic and salt and pepper to taste. Continue cooking for 1-3 minutes until sausage is cooked through.
  • To your meat mixture, add marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, and Italian seasoning. Reduce heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  • Remove sauce from heat and add cooked pasta into sauce, tossing well.
  • Pour pasta mixture into prepared 9x13 pan and top evenly with mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.
  • Bake in 375* oven for approx 25-30 minutes or until cheeses are melted and pasta is hot and bubbly. Remove from oven. Serve and ENJOY!
  • NOTE: if cooking it straight out of refrigerator, add a few minutes to your cook time.
